A Magyar Kánonjogtörténeti Társaság 2025. május 15-én alakult azzal a céllal, hogy intézményes fórumot teremtsen a kánonjogtörténet területén akár doktoranduszként, posztdoktorként, kánonjogászként, oktatóként, vagy kutatóként tevékenykedők számára; tudományos továbbképzés, kutatási programok, különböző méretű szakmai, inter- és multidiszciplináris szimpóziumok, valamint publikációs lehetőségek megszervezésén keresztül, ezzel erősíteni a kánonjogtörténet tudományának magyarországi elsajátítását és művelését. Mindezt kiegészíti a kánonjogtörténeti ismeretterjesztés, valamint a kapcsolattartás és együttműködés más – akár nemzetközi szinten működő – kánonjogi és kánonjogtörténeti társaságokkal, kutatóközpontokkal és intézetekkel.
